I feel that the only way to make it more accurate would be to use a different method - perhaps were we had a thin metal bar that was strong and did not bend like the piece of wire. We could have used a different instrument like an ohmmeter to measure the resistance instead of measuring the voltage and current and then dividing the voltage by the current.
