The wonderfuly talented actress, Audrey Hepburn, was actually born Edda
van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston in Brussels, Belgium, on May 4, 1929. Her
father, Joseph Anthony Hepburn-Ruston was and English banker. Her
mother, Ella Hepburn-Ruston was a Dutch baroness. Edda, better known as
Audrey, grew up in England, but moved to the Netherlands after her parents
separated. While in the Netherlands, Audrey appeared in her first film,
Nederland in Lessen (Dutch at the Double), in 1938. Because of the Nazi

Sadly, in 1992, Audrey was diagnosed with colon cancer. She battled
briefly with the cancer until January 20, 1993, when she finally died in her
home in Tolochenaz, Switzerland. Her death was mourned internationally as
the loss of one of the favorite film actresses of all time, an icon to style,
elegance, dignity, and charity.
