In Jack London's To Build a Fire the antagonist is said to be Nature and the protagonists is said to be the man; other words nature is conflicting impulses within the protagonist. Or the man is trying to survive nature's natural forces against him which are seventy-five below zero temperatures.

Without humans nature would do the same as the dog, just pick up and keep on going. On the other hand though humans are in need of nature. For without nature humans would surely be unable to exist. Therefore Humans and nature seem to have a need for coexisting together, though nature has a choice, in the end humans do not.
