Affluenza is defined as the need to purchase more in order to gain status and happiness. America has five percent of the world's population and we consume thirty times as much as other countries. Our obsession with material goods has progressed to the point where advertisers will target children in order to make a sale. We are controlled by our obsessions with "stuff" so much that it has become a high priority in our society.

out more carefully. It is apparent that you cannot buy happiness and if you try to that "everything you own, will own you." America can turn back the hands of time and reach a point of less consumption. However, that will take the educating of the public on the outbreak of "Affluenza" and how to stop it. One can only hope that we will find a way to do so before it gets more out-of-hand.
