Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was founded in 1958 by Mr. Ailey. Mr. Ailey had a vision of creating a company dedicated to the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance heritage and the uniqueness of black cultural expression. In 1960, he choreographed Revelations, the classic masterpiece of American modern dance based on the religious heritage of his youth. e dancers moved across the stage reviling it all in a dramatically superb performance. The costumes helped to take the audience back in a sweet aching time portal to the past where the story was unfolding.
This performance was aimed to teach and educate as it was a matinee directed to attract students as an audience. And I believe that every student left the Detroit Opera House that day, will grow immensely from this experience.
