The late fifteenth and early sixteenth century saw the birth of two artist that were so drastically different in styles, they are still looked at in awe over 300 years later. Albrecht Durer and Matthias Grunewald each had their own style and influence in the way they completed their art. Durer remained essentially German; the influence of the art of Italy and the Netherlands was accompanying. Many, however, fought the idea of there being anything different and instead grabbed hold of the traditional teaching and beliefs they were raised on. During this period, many artist struggled with their thoughts and perceptions of God and how He should be portrayed. There is such a large variety of art during the hole of the Renaissance that no one artist can be overlooked.
