Throughout the entire novel, White Fang seeks to live out a life of his own, free of any responsibility to anyone. This causes him to struggle through everyday life, and to ultimately find no happiness in the things that he does. Had White Fang have realized that his life could have been made so much more purposeful; he could have become a much happier character and not seen as such a vicious and lonely individual.
