The American Indian History in the Eastern part of the country is always associated with the Cherokee Indian nation. The Cherokee's were by far the largest and most advanced of the tribes when Europeans first arrived and came in contact with Native Americans. There are too many tribes to go over background on every one of them, so I'm going to focus on the Cherokee's since

other minor ones became the source and reason behind the stories told by Indians. Many stories and poems reflected happenings in their lives and feelings they had. Indian literature allows us to see and feel what the Indians had to go through. Much of the literature they had was passed on orally. This is unfortunate since you lose so much meaning and feeling when reading something rather than having it told to you out loud.
