sire has caused men to kill others for things that they may want. It leads humans to do things that are in other ways undesirable. Hate hardens a person against anything that is rational in the same way that ice hardens an object making it impenetrable. Frost incorporates an Aesopian moral to this poem by asserting that hate and desire makes people destroy in ways that would otherwise be unthinkable to a well functioning mind.
