Gandhi's death was regarded as an international catastrophe. He developed a place not just in India's history but world history with his accomplishments. Successful basically because he and India refused to quit and would not just roll over to the Britain any longer. Gandhi's efforts came to inspire nonviolent movements elsewhere, notably in the U.S. under the civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and in Africa under Nelson Mandela.
