Immanuel Kant was a German Philosopher who lived from 1724-1804 and made the switch of art over from classical aesthetics to modern aesthetics. Kant's idea of beauty can be like the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." This idea is unlike Plato's idea of beauty, because Plato feels for something to be beautiful it must follow rules and have some characteristics. But to many people now, Kant's view is more likely to be accepted by people because people in general do not like to be told they should not like something because someone says so.
