It was 3:45 on a cold but sunny afternoon in Berkley, Michigan when I got the phone call I will remember for the rest of my life. A woman was calling from my wife's cell phone telling me my wife, Mary, hit a semi-truck, she was thrown from her car, and was lying in the middle of the road. At that point, I was overwhelmed with fear, anger, and grief all at the same time. The

do it the next day. I stayed with Mary in her room all day and all night waiting for a miracle that would never come. Finally, I kissed Mary one last time and the nurses wheeled her off to let her go. That was the last time I saw her.
