his family and farm in Braintree, now called Quincy after his son. He and Thomas Jefferson had become friends and they exchanged letters often. Adams was a very important man. Without his influence, the American history would have stopped a long time ago. On July 4, 1826, the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Adams in his last words, whispered, "Thomas Jefferson survives."
