The play ends with Macduff killing Macbeth and Malcolm rightfully proclaimed king. So overall at the end of the play, Macbeth was not entirely responsible for his actions as his wife played in a major part to murder the king. I think he should have said no and meant it if he didn't want to murder Duncan at all.
