Helicopters played a minor role in World War II. However, World War II demonstrated that the helicopter could perform useful missions, and they did see service to a limited extent as supply craft and for rescue operations in the China-Burma-India theatre, and were operated by the 1st Air Commando unit. But the helicopters of the day were still limited in their power, size, and hence their capabilities.

along way since their induction into the service. Starting from general support back in WWII to a flying weapons platform such as the Apache we use today. With these new advances in the helicopter the battlefield is changing minute by minute. No longer can the enemy run and hide or a submarine just sit and wait for the enemy to float on by. Only time will tell us what the next helicopter will bring us.
