twice. By overloading on symbolism the play seems contrived. The symbolism takes over the simple enjoyment of the play as people are reduced to symbols not real people. With intimate family power struggles as well as insult and dependence, obscure characters with equally ambiguous personality traits, prostitution and violence Pinter has included too many disasters to make it representative of true life. He has sacrificed realism for drama.
