Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769 on the island of Corsica. After finishing military school in France, he became an artillery officer. He advanced his career when the wars of the French Revolution came about. Since Napoleon was always successful he was ordered to plan an invasion of England. He meant to spread the blessings of the Revolution to the Germans, Dutch, Spaniards, Poles, and Italians. He wished to create a United States out of Europe. Although a debate over Napoleon continues historians agree on two points. He had no ordinary life and by spreading revolutionary ideals and institutions he made it impossible for the traditional rulers to restore the old Regime. He had made a severe impact on Europe which would last forever.
