French and German Expressionism
I think that the French do seem more formal in designing their pictoral space than the Germans did during the expressionist movement. The Germans approached their work from a more psychological standpoint, concentrating on the human condition. expressionists seem to be more interested in formalizing their pictoral space to express to us a more optimistic view of the human condition that seems peaceful, serene, and carefree. The emotional content presented through the use of expressionism contained many similarities and differences all over Europe, allowing the ideas of expressionism to catch on like wildfire. Expressionism would eventually usher in even more abstract and emotional periods of modern art as time progressed.
