was able to see himself in happy times, and see himself miserable. This is how Scrooge really changed. Can a person really change if they are just scared, or pity others condition, and envy them. I don't think so. Most people were given the choice to see the past, present of future. If they really whole-heartedly wished to change, I think they should choose to see the past, in order to really change their ways.
