One of the main differences between Peter Sculthorpe's compositions and that of other composers is that he uses a variety of string techniques to create different sounds throughout his music. Movement 5- The Settlers theme is slightly varied in the style Elgar. Again the theme is played through twice. In this movement everyone plays together (i.e. settlers and bush).
Movement 6- Here the theme is closest to that borrowed from the aboriginals. It is played through three times.
