Lee's face has several meanings. It has a personal meaning to the main character, and it has the protector point of view. The streets are all kept very dark to enhance the dramatic mood of the film. Also the soundtrack of the film shows how deep the movie is with artists like "The Cure."
Thankfully Brandon Lee's death occurred towards the end of movie so the world would not be deprived of this excellent film.
