It is probable that this is a conscious replication of an earlier technique due to how this look somewhat disappeared during the early Christian era only to make an appearance in this work by Giotto.
We can now see just how each of the named works represented a revival of antiquity, especially Roman art. As well as just how each piece was influenced by this in either a conscious or unconscious return to earlier periods.
