When I set out to prove that slavery was more profitable than indentured servitude I could not understand how the plantation owners could own slaves, even if it was more profitable than indentured servitude, because it was morally wrong. I found out that the English colonists were racists who believed that white Europeans were a superior race to black Africans. They even thought that they were helping the African slaves by teaching them about Christianity (

they worked in a day. They weren't allowed to leave the plantation - ever. They were given very limited amounts of food and clothing, just enough for survival. They did not have freedom of religion. They weren't even permitted to spend time with their family on holidays. They were not given any money for all their hard labor. Even their children became the property of the slave owner. There was no time off for slaves.
