Normal people are inherently selfish, even when they seem to be acting very altruistically. od about themselves or possibly earning the gratitude of the people they've helped. Maybe some saintly beings even hope to pave their way to heaven as a result of these good deeds. I do not wish to detract from the value of their work. The world would be far worse without them, but I do feel that they, just like most other human beings, wouldn't continue without some form of reward, whether external or internal!
