Tanks did not play a very big role in World War One, but they became a new war machine which proved to be very important in wars after World War One.

By the end of the war, the British had produced some 2,636 tanks. The French produced 3,870. The Germans, surprisingly, produced just 20. This new weapon led to big changes in war tactics following World War One.
