The North wanted high prices of land, and they discouraged westward migration. The next issue was the tariffs. The south wanted low tariffs, to protect manufactured goods against foreign goods. Tensions grew amogst the two and the war broke out in 1861. That is the end of the antebellum time, and we are moving on to the Civil War.
