…showed last 75 words of 964 total…dedicates the novel to his mother, which displays irony. Holden barely ever mentions his mother in the book, so it is odd to see that Salinger chose his mother to dedicate it to. Since Holden leans towards females for consolement, Phoebe and Jane, it makes sense that Salinger would chose his mother over his father however it still doesn't explain why his mother opts in the first place as opposed to other females out there.
