Nick Carraway tells lies of omission he believes that he is being honest and a "nice guy" by not saying anything to anybody but he is really causing the situation to get worse. His lies of omission led to the deaths of Myrtle and Gatsby. Therefore the "American experience" in the 1920's is really lying about anything and everything in order to get ahead and make it seem like you are a high class citizen.
