Not only were they expected to fulfill their jobs as soldiers, but to serve for the bettering and well being of the community. They were experienced and participated in building and engineering projects; they were always there to protect their citizens and they were always there to help out the local communities in some way. All of these duties fulfilled probably without any benefit. No matter what duty the Roman Army was called to do, they always stood ready, strong and proud.
