t anything extravagant but typical Victorian costumes. The women wore long gowns and bonnets and the men wore frock coats and trousers. Even though the costumes, like the set, were uncomplicated without the costumes the seriousness and darkness of the play would not have been as effective because the costumes force the audience to accept each characters choices whether they are wrong or right.
