The Western Australian Full Court's decision to award a reduced compensation to Widow, Mrs Teresa de Sales, because of good looks is completely legal. But is it right? This law was passed in 1863, when women did not have much in the way of an independent income, when they were dependent on their husbands for food and shelter. This law stated

blind'; if this is truly so, then it should not be able to distinguish one woman from another, and the outcome of Mrs de Sales case should not have turned out the way it did. I think that this law is out-dated and should be repealed. In today's society, women are independent, are able to choose who they marry - if they want to marry at all - and should have equality before the law.
