In 1932, Herbert J Taylor, Chicago Rotarian and president of Rotary International wrote the Four Way Test in 1954-55. This concept is a purely subjective form of self-analysis. one of the first principles of Rotary established in 1910. Rotary was neither a religion of a substitute for a religion. But still the Four Way Test was and is a subjective analysis with no dogmatic answers.
The Four Way Test states the following:
"Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the Truth?
2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
