Software is a major part of our lives, with technology substantially climbing at a large rate. Software can be anything from operating systems, email handlers to games. Free software is anything but good for the consumer or developer. It consists in many different forms: trial ware (demo software), Freeware, Shareware and Piracy. Unlike more physical products such as hardware, modern advance technology has allowed software to be duplicated with almost zero effort or cost (piracy).

Taking this into consideration, software manufacturers have to raise the price of their software to account for the loss in sale by the pirates who literally steal the major corporation's business and the pirates make big bucks at the mere cost of a blank cd!
Whilst it may seem on the surface that free software would benefit the consumer, when looking into it with the points above it can easily be seen that it doesn't.
