the seventeenth century, the influence of Puritanism in New England was fading. But in a very good sense their, "city upon a hill" still endures. The Puritans lived hard and stressful lives. Lives that probably couldn't be dealt with by us today. All work and no play was their everyday and their life revolved around religion and everything related to it. Their goal was to live a pure and sinless life, a life of simplicity.
