and wise, through the use of supporting female characters. One learns through use of some of the more major female characters that women are not to be heroic, sexual, or dominant. Homer uses his female characters to introduce his culture to the reader, purposefully or not. The reader comes away from this poem with a greater understanding of ancient Greek culture, specifically the roles of women at this time.
