Many Romans visited the Thermae or the public baths, as we know them. Bathing was a very important in Italy, as there were over 900 baths by 300 AD.
The baths were huge buildings built by emperors or by the public. On the inside, they looked luxurious. An average bathhouse would have mirrors on the wall, ceiling covered in glass, rich marble lining the pools and complicated mosaics decorated the floor.

a huge swimming pool. This was only used by men and was restricted to women.
Some baths had gyms, libraries, snack bars, lounges shops and some even had museums and theaters. The bathhouse was used to meet friends, chat, exercise
do deals or just to keep clean. They were also very noisy with men singing, people reciting poems and many people chatting. For these reasons and more the baths were a popular place to be.
