Vergil The subject matter presented in Eclogue 1 tells much about the time in which it was written. Eclogue 1, in essence, is about the land confiscations after the battle of Philippi. Again, all the themes presented allows insight on the events taking place around the time of Vergil's writings, and offers much truth in detail about the age in which the Eclogue 1 was written and when it took place.
