Vincent van Gogh was born March 30th, 1853, in Groot Zundert, in the north Brabant region of the Netherlands. He lived there until he was 16 years old. Vincent laboured throughout March and April on these studies, briefly distracted from his work by the death of his father on 26 March. Vincent and his father had maintained a severely strained relationship over the last few years and, while certainly not happy about his father's death, Vincent was quite emotionally detached and continued his work.
