One could argue whether evacuation was a success or not. In terms of achieving objectives, it was. If evacuation had never taken place, thousands more people would have died. The preparation for evacuation was the stage that went well, which was achieved as planned. Source 2 on pg.301 of the textbook shows evacuees leaving the East End of London in September 1939. girl that lived in rural Northern Ireland at the time of evacuation and describes her unpleasant experiences with evacuees from Belfast. From the style of writing in which she has chosen to write her description, it is clear that there is prejudice involved and indicates she did not get on very well with the evacuees because of their dirty appearance and their eating habits, which clearly draws the 'line' between the lower and middle class.
