Background
Walking through the gallery, the artwork of Ansel Easton Adams caught my eye; my favorite piece was his 1929 photograph of Tony Lujan. Adams is famous for his mastery in black and white photography. His photos contain vast scale as well as intimate detail. Adams was born in 1902 in San Francisco. His first love was for music as he trained to become a concert pianist. In a way his face sort of resembles leather, and like leather his face has many tiny wrinkles. Adams was a master of the black and white print and it proved very difficult to duplicate such shading. Adams method of exposure and development divided the gradations of light in a scene into ten zones from black to white; this allowed him to visualize the different levels of gray in the final photograph with great accuracy.
